SRINAGAR: The committee on passenger fare on Tuesday recommended 13 per cent hike in buses and mini buses passenger fare. The recommendations were put forth by the committee headed by Transport Commissioner Surabh Bhagat in Jammu in the afternoon.
Well placed sources in transport department said, that besides the hike in buses ad mini buses passenger fare, the committee recommended a 10 per cent hike in basic class contract carriage which besides other light motor vehicles includes Sumos, Tavera, Xylo etc.
The committee also recommended creation of premium class in contract carriage which includes cars like Innova, Fortuner etc. On the basic passenger fare in this class, the committee has recommended 20 per cent hike in passenger fare.
A senior officer in the transport department told KNS, that the committee recommended Rs 1350 plus fuel charges for full day full booking for mini buses ad Rs 2400 I addition to fuel charges for big busses for full day full booking.
All these recommendations have been mooted keeping in view the market rates, fuel prices and other relevant components.
The meeting was attended by RTO Kashmir, RTO Jammu besides ARTO Budgam and ARTO Jammu (in capacity of technical experts). The recommendations have been forwarded to the finance department for consideration and final approval.
