SRINAGAR: An extraordinary meeting of the Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) was held in Srinagar on Friday. The meeting which was presided over by the Patron of the Guild Bashir Ahmad Bashir and attended by President Tahir Mohiuddin and various members discussed several issues including the draft constitution for the KEG.
The meeting approved the draft constitution with voice vote. It was felt that the KEG will operate within the parameters set by the draft constitution and all members, including the office bearers shall be governed by the constitution of the KEG.
The KEG members also felt the need that the guild needs to be made more vibrant for which the members expressed their desire to expand the base of the guild.
The members decided that genuine newspaper owners and editors shall be invited to be part of the guild so as to make it more lively.
The KEG members also expressed displeasure over the lackadaisical attitude of the government over the issues confronting the pint media Industry.
It was felt that the Chief Minister did not take steps to lessen the problems faced by the print media Industry as he did not take the suggestion seriously that were offered by the KEG members during a meeting held at Srinagar recently.
The KEG also asked the government to streamline the release of payments that are overdue to media organizations in the state.
The KEG demanded that the government should immediately release the payments and arrears that are over due to the news organization here.
Th members also elected Manzoor Anjum, Chief Editor daily Uqab as the treasurer of the organization.
