GANDERBAL: Following his poor performance in Mathematics paper on Monday, a class 12th student allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance today.
A group of 12th standard students had earlier protested at Press Enclave on Monday evening complaining that the mathematics paper set by Board Of School Education was out of syllabus.
A pal of gloom descended on the family of Irshad Ahmed Shah of Sehpora Ganderbal after he ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance.
Family alleged that Irshad was very perturbed after appearing in Math paper of class 12th on Monday.
After appearing in maths paper, Irshad seemed to be dejected and perturbed and he told his family that the paper was out of syllabus and he want to die, said Reyaz Ahmed a relation of the deceased.
Studing in Boys Higher Secondary School Soura Irshad was a bright student and always came off with flying colours in exams, he said.
Family sources said that Irshad consumed poison on Tuesday afternoon. He was immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital Ganderbal where from he was shifted to SKIMS.
Doctors there however declared him brought dead.
A police official later said they have registered a case (FIR No. 41) under section 309.
It would be premature to comment on the cause of death as investigation was in progress, he said.
Pertinently, hundreds of class 12th students Monday staged protest demonstrations at Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that the mathematics paper was twisted and out of syllabus.
When contacted Secretary to Board of School Education, Renu Goswami said that an expert committee has been constituted to probe the matter and this committee has been directed to submit its report within three days.
If it is proved that paper has been twisted, then certainly paper setter would face the music. Last year, one of the paper setter was suspended in this connection, Goswami revealed.
Joint Secretary Examination, BOSE, Mehboob Hussain said that he was shocked to learn about the death of the student. My sympathies are with the family and I assure all the students that after seeking opinion from experts, a proper decision would be taken in this regard, he said.
