SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir is all set to host the 6th Intra-University Youth Festival, Sonzal-2013 in the University Campus from 31st Oct- 6th Nov. 2013.
Organized by the Department of Students Welfare (DSW) KU the festival provides best opportunities to the students to manifest their hidden talent and potentialities.
According to the organizers of the festival around one-thousand students from about 40 Degree Colleges and 40 University teaching departments are expected to participate in the seven-day long festival during which a close competition would be witnessed amongst the participants who would be contesting in around 19 different categories which include various events quiz, debate, elocution, poster making, painting, cartoon making, rangoli, clay modeling, on-spot photography, one act play, mimicry, classical, folk and instrumental music arenas and other categories.
The winners of the Sonzal-2013 will represent the University of Kashmir in the Inter-University North India Level Youth Festival to be held at Babasahib Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Vidya Vihar, Lucknow in November, 2013.
The North India Level winners would be called by Association of Indian Universities for National Level contest to be held in Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.
Terming the seven-day festival as ground-breaking Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad said The youth festival is a pioneering initiative in terms of activating the creative and innovative instincts amongst the youth and we as society have a great responsibility to ensure that our youngsters get a proper platform for showcasing their talent which will help in the overall development of our young generation.
Prof Talat added that the youth of Kashmir have proven their potential at various national and international forums in both academics as well as extra-curricular activities and have won laurels for the state.
Our students do not lack talent. They are a repository of innovative and creative ideas. However what is needed now is that they get a proper direction and University is the best institution which can nurture their talent by providing them more such opportunities, said Prof Talat.
Dean Students Welfare and Chairperson of the festival Prof Neelofar Khan said Sonzal is an annual feature of the University which provides an opportunity to the students of Colleges and University Departments to develop and exhibit their talent. Indeed, our students have been selected for and performed exceedingly well in cultural and literary festivals in India and abroad.”
Prof Neelofar khan said that the festival plays a significant role in introducing our youth to the rich cultural heritage of J&K and the conduct of the youth festival in the Universities provides a much-needed opportunity of utilizing the young minds in constructive and fruitful activities.
The organizers said that the event aims at transcending new levels of glory and get everyone together in unison as it represents youth of the state who possess diverse talents and potential and extends to bring them together on a common platform with an aim that best of the best will represent the university in national and international competitions.
