SRINAGAR: Coinciding with the celebration of Youm-al-Gadheer a historic event was organised in Srinagar. Members of Sunni & Shia communities led by a number of Ulama from both sects offered congregational prayers Zohr (Noon) at the mausoleum of Hazrat Mir Shamsudin Araki and Asr (afternoon) at the shrine of Sultan-ul Arifeen Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom.
The event was promoted by two leading Muslim religious leaders from central Kashmir Agha Syed Abdul Hussain al Mosavi and Mirwaiz Abdul Lateef Bukhari.
The alleged rift between two great religious personalities Hazrat Sheikh Hamaza Makhdoom and Mir Shamsudin Araki have been time and again used as a pretext for stocking sectarian strife in Kashmir. It took Tehran based Institute World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought four long years to prove the fact that the duo were not contemporaries. Then how can the question of conflict between them arise, said institutes representative here Aga Syed Abdul Hussain.
We visit the mausoleum of Hazrat Sultanul Arifeen every year on 21st Ramzan , the martyrdom day of Imam Ali (A.S), Agha said adding, an elderly religious Sunni scholar from Tangmarg Maulana Mohammad Sultan had expressed his desire to pay a visit to the mausoleum of Mir Shamsudin Araki some time back. So on the occasion of Eid-e-Gadheer a programme under the banner Eid-e- Gadheer and Aqed-i- Ukhwat was held and scholars and students from Sunni and Shia communities visited the mausoleum of Hazrat Sultanul Arifeen, where after joint Asr prayers, Ulama joined a function held in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of third caliph Hazrat Usman (R.A).
Earlier the Ulama and students from both sects paid obeisance at the shrine of Mir Araki in Zadibal where they joined Jashan-i-Gadheer and offered Zohr prayers together.
