SRINAGAR: Various stakeholders living and working around Dal lake Wednesday formally announced the launch of UNITED DAL & ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATION (UDEA). The association is an amalgam of some twenty organisations with objective of restoring the lost glory of Dal and Nigeen Lakes, environmental conservation and to uplift the socio-economic condition of the people living around these lakes.
UDEA will work on end-to-end issues relating to the promotion of tourism and preservation of fragile environmental bodies, said Yaqub Dunoo, a founder member of the amalgam.
Muhammad Yousuf Chapri was elected as the chairman of the association, Wali Muhammad as Vice Chairman, Abdul Hamid Wangnoo as Deputy Vice Chairman, Ghulam Rasool Akhoon as General Secretary, Zareef Ahmad Zareef as Additional General Secretary, Muhammad Yakub Dunoo as Secretary, Ghulam Ahmad Kulu as Deputy Secretary, Mir Shariq Mushtaq as Publicity Secretary and Treasurer, Tariq Patloo as Chief Organizer and Assistant Treasurer.
The function was attended by the houseboat owners, hoteliers, shikara owners, motorboat owners, bathing boat owners and traders (hawkers, boat market shopkeepers, photographers) of the Nigeen & Dal lakes. They assured full support and cooperation to the newly formed association.
On the occasion Mr. Chapri said we all will coordinate as citizens of the state with the government departments especially with Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) ,Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Pollution Control Board and Law-makers so that old glory of this wonder of the world is restored.
