Srinagar: Minister for Agriculture Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir today said that foundation seed of wheat variety PBW-396 was multiplied over an area of 190 acres at Seed Multiplication Farm, Chinore during Rabi 2012-13 and 1850.85 qtls of seed were produced.
The seed was subjected to quality tests and the entire lot of 1850.85 qtls of Certified Seed was found infected with 2.18 per cent of Karnal Bunt which is more than permissible limit of 0.25 per cent and declared non-standard as per norms in vogue.
Consequently, after authorization of the Joint Director, Agriculture (Inputs) and after following due procedure, entire lot was disposed of to M/S/ Munna Traders at a minimum support price of Rs 1350 per qtls to realize the appropriate matching revenue to state exchequer and to clear the storage space for next crop.
He said on 24th July, 2013, I/C Police Post, Gajansoo, while on patrol duty in the area, intercepted three trucks near Karloop Morh. On questioning about the loaded material from the drivers, the latter were unable to explain about the same except that they had loaded the wheat seeds from the Government Farm, Chinore. However, no document relating to the wheat seeds was produced on spot by any of the Truck drivers. Upon this, the trucks were seized u/s 550 Cr PC for further verification and authentication.
The Minister said that after verification by the police of the three Challans, issued by Agricultutral farm Chinore, the same were found authentic and since no offence was found to be committed and an application U/S 523 CrPC was produced in the court of law and the seized trucks and wheat seeds were released to the concerned owners on 27th September, 2013 pursuant to the orders of the judicial magistrate 1st Class (Munsif), Jammu.
