Srinagar: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today informed the House that on 2nd October 2013, upon a specific input regarding presence of a militant in Ahmadnagar, Soura, the Police and security forces cordoned off the area and started search operations during which an unknown militant fired indiscriminately upon the search party and lobbed grenades from the house of one Mr. Mohammad Sultan Bhat. This resulted in injuries to 8 police personnel including two officers.
In order to avoid any collateral damage and keeping in view that it is a built-up area, he said, the police/CRPF forces exercised maximum restraint. Taking advantage of this and the darkness, the militant managed to escape. The search operation continued in the whole area especially in the thick bushes/plants on Anchar side till dawn.
A case under FIR No. 79/2013 under Section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act stands registered in the Police Station Soura and investigation is underway, he told the Legislative Assembly.
