SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant was killed on Monday after army claimed to have foiled a fresh infiltration bid at Lasdat sector in North Kashmirs Kupwara district.
A defense official in a statement issued to GNS said that army foiled an infiltration bid and killed one militant while others managed to flee back on the Line of control (LoC) in Lasdat area near Sona Pindi gali of Machhal Sector in Kupwara on Monday.
Based on inputs regarding movement of militants in the area, troops of 5 ASSAM deployed in the sector detected movement of three to four militants on this side of the Line of Control in the wee hours today, the official said, adding the troops cordoned off the area.
The group of militants were observed by own troops, who on being detected opened fire on troops, the official said.
The retaliatory fire by the troops resulted in the death of one militant and the others managed to move back, he said.
One AK-47, one magazine and other war like stores have been recovered from the sight, the official said, adding the searches in the area are still going on.
