SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone has expressed his deep dismay over the continued imposition of curfew in Shopian for the 14th consecutive day terming it akin to the tactics used by Israel in Palestine.
The crippling curfew in Shopian is the symptom not the disease which is a total disregard of the sanctity of human life by the present NC led coalition. The tragic part is that sooner or later Shopian incident will be buried in the din of an utterly cruel and cacophonous polity. Lone said in a statement.
“This is the rule not the exception for all incidents of human rights violations in Kashmir. The chronology is predictable. The government of the day will announce an eyewash of an enquiry and the opposition will score its own brownie points by taking credit for announcement of the enquiry and wait for the next incident of loss of Kashmiri lives. he asid.
Sajad Lone stressed that human rights violations have followed a pattern of musical chairs, the National Conference, the PDP and the Congress have all perfected the ‘theatrical performances’ of playing the aggressor or the aggrieved, depending whether they are the opposition or the ruling party.
Lone felt agitated at the continuous imposition of Curfew in the town depriving the inhabitants of basic means of survival and deemed it not only a violation of the peoples basic human rights but also part of a systemic design of depriving the populace their means of economic survival.
Terming it akin to the tactics used by Israel in Palestine he remarked Just as the Israelis aim to malign the Palestinians both emotionally and economically through the destruction of their olive harvests the curfew imposed in Shopian at a time when the harvest season is at its zenith and ripe apples are exposed to rotting away due to the prolonged curfew; the forces are trying to inflict the same oppression on the Kashmiris .
This, he expressed, was a crucial step in disempowering the Kashmiris and a link in the larger game plan of showing Kashmiris their true place.
He went on to express that it was not the leadership alone that was entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the rights and dignity of people, but the populace too was vested with the duty to shoulder the responsibility by ensuring that the leadership is held accountable to such gruesome violations. the first step towards this end he reiterated is to separate the pretenders from the actual mourners to identify and purge those elements who have traditionally played with our blood in times of adversity only to return as messiahs once the blood-fest that they facilitated, settled down.
“They are no well wishers of ours but only part of a bigger plan to keep us disempowered as a people”, Lone said adding, “so long as the engineered monopoly of the two oligarchies namely NC and PDP continues so will the dance macabre of the common Kashmiri”.
