BARAMULLA: Family of Tahir Ahmed Sofi, who was shot dead by 46 RR in March this year, Thursday alleged that the district administration Baramulla was persuading them to accept an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh and stop clamouring about the probe going on into the killing of their son.
They said that district administration has even mislead State Human Rights Commission and has dispatched them a letter in which the administration has claimed that the family of Tahir Sofi has accepted Rs 5 lakh as compensation.
We were shocked to see the letter forwarded by district administration Baramulla to SHRC. The administration has provided wrong information to the Commission. We dont want compensation but punishment to the killers, one of the family members of Tahir said.
They said that Additional District Commissioner Barmaula, who was heading the probe, submitted his report to the administration in June 28 and since then, We dont know about anything. We tried to find out the outcome of the probe by filing an application under Right to Information Act, but the reply we received was astounding. The Government replied us that we cant provide information due to security reasons, the family said.
They said that the family members even approached to the court and the court has sought explanation from the government including Commanding Officer, 46 RR, Dalbinder Singh. Probe should be made public and guilty should be punished. We cooperated with the government and now it is the time for the government to deliver, the family members said.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Ghulam Ahmed Khawaja said that he received the report in a closed envelop and forwarded it to the Home Department without going through the report.
Special Secretary Home, Dilshada said that the report lies with Additional Secretary Home, Arshid Ayoub.
Ayoub said that he is not aware about such report. I dont know anything about this report. What can I say when I dont know anything about such report, he said. (CNS)
