SRINAGAR: Joint Consultative Committee, an amalgam of various employee unions, spearheading the agitation, Tuesday deferred the proposed strike from Wednesday for 5-days.
We have decided to defer the protest that employees leadership had decided to commence from 17th of this month on the assurance of the Cabinet Sub Committee headed by Finance Minister that the demands of the employees would be positively conceded in the next meeting to be held on 27th of this month, JCC leader Abdul Qayoom Wani told media persons during a press conference in Srinagar on Tuesday.
He said earlier the government had not given any time-bound assurance, as was given by the Finance Minister today. We have now decided to wait till 27th of this month, Wani said.
On Finance Ministers assurance, we have decided to defer the protests for 10-days from today. We hope that the government will keep his commitment and implement the agreement, JCC leader, Abdul Rouf Bhat said.
JCC leadership appealed the employees to resume their normal work and wait for the outcome of the next meeting.
Giving details about the meeting, JCC leader, Abdul Qayoom Wani said that talks were held in a conducive atmosphere. Cabinet Sub Committee members along with Finance Minister showed positive attitude and we hope that government would implement the agreement during our next meeting. He said that next meeting would be held on 27th of this month and it would be a decisive one.
To push for their demands JCC had earlier issued a five day protest calendar which was scheduled to commence from September 17. The calendar included a candlelight march on September 18, Civil Secretariat Gherao on September 19 and State wide demonstrations on September 20 and 21.
It is pertinent to mention here that employees are demanding raise of the retirement age bar from 58 to 60 years, regularization of daily and need-based workers who have been engaged after 1994, removal of pay anomalies of clerical cadre and budgetary support to sick public sector corporations for payment of wages to workers.
