SRINAGAR: The Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM), New-Delhi established in 1971, is the statutory Apex Body constituted under the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970 governing the rules and regulations of Indian Systems of Medicinesat Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate level. CCIM has prescribed 5½ years degree course at UG Level and Diploma/03 years degree at PG level.
CCIM prescribes minimum standards of education in Indian Systems of Medicine viz. Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa and Standards of Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Code of Ethics to be observed by the practitioners besides advising Central Government in matters relating to recognition (inclusion/with drawal) of medical qualification in/from second schedule to Indian Medicine Council Act, 1970.
A two day workshop was organized by CCIM in Srinagar to revise the syllabus of BUMS Course with the collaboration of Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K. Subject matter experts from all over India participated in two days workshop.
On this occasion, Director ISM, J&K, Dr. Ab. Kabir Dar, welcomed the experts who had come from different parts of the country. He laid emphasis on the new challenges and opportunities of Unani system of medicine. He briefed the experts about the importance of Unani Education in India based on therapeutic principles. He stressed upon the need to have a close co-ordination between the modern diagnostic tools and the traditional systems of medicine.
Dr. Rashidullah Khan, President CCIM, deliberated upon the present status of academic curriculum at the undergraduate and postgraduate Levels in India. He highlighted the workshop with regard to Unani Education Regulations in India and informed that these courses are conducted in 42 Unani medical Colleges affiliated to 18 universities of India. These courses have been prescribed to produce the competent Unani graduates of profound knowledge and skill, having deep basis of Unani with modern scientific knowledge, in accordance with Unani fundamentals with extensive practical Training, so as to become efficient Unani physicians, research officers/scientists.
He hailed the efforts of Deptt. of ISM,J&K to conduct and facilitate such national level workshops in the state and hoped to have such more workshops in future.
Executive members of CCIM, Dr. Shuhabuddin and Dr. Mohammed Shafiq also spoke on this occasion and laid emphasis on the importance of standard of Education of Ayurveda, Uanni and Siddha systems. Among other experts Prof. Mehtab Ali Dean faculty of Unani medicine Jamia Hamdard, Prof. Anis Ansari former Advisor to Govt. of India and former Dean faculty of Unani medicine Aligarh Muslim University graced the workshop. Mr. Sharma Registrar CCIM and Dr. Shamshada Bano Assistant Registrar attended the workshop.
