DM moves proposal, seeks opinion from stake holders
SRINAGAR: The State government Thursday indicated that it was making arrangements for the shifting of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Gagran in Shopian. Four people had died in firing by CRPF personnel outside this camp on Saturday.
Locals say the four men killed were innocent civilians. The police insist that one of them was a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, but admits that the other three had no militancy record.
On Wednesday CRPF men again opened fire on a group of people who were demanding shifting of this camp, killing a 28 year old youth, Rafiq Ahmad Rather.
Highly placed sources in the administration said that the issue was examined at highest level and opinion of all the stake holders, including the CRPF and other law enforcing agencies was sought beforehand.
However the process may take not less than three days. The administration was looking for an appropriate location where the camp could be shifted and it was most likely that it may be shifted in the district police lines temporarily, these sources said.
