APSCC visits Shopian, Geelani assures support
SRINAGAR: Members of Sikh community in Shopian Wednesday alleged that miscreants pelted stones on several of their residential houses and damaged the vehicles parked in the yards.
All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that some miscreants resorted to stone pelting and harassed the minority community in Shopian.
APSCC members visited the district on Wednesday and held meeting with civil society, traders and district and police officials. They assured the minority community that these vested interests would be identified and exposed, Raina said.
The Sikh delegation also visited the families of youth killed by CRPF and conveyed condolences to the kin of the deceased.
According to Akali Dal (Man) leader, Jogindar Singh Shan the Sikh leaders have brought the matter into the notice of separatist leaders who assured us that miscreants would be exposed and action taken against them.
Geelani Sahab told us that he would personally look into the matter and would find out who are these elements who try to create a wedge between the two communities living in peace and amity for centuries in Kashmir, Shan said.
A tiny minority of Sikhs in Shopian have lived peacefully through the turmoil period of last 20 years but their exact number is not known.
