SRINAGAR: A day after National Conference withdrew the claim of forming the council in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil) LAHDCK, Congress on Wednesday sent across a reconciliatory signal saying it was ready to hold a coordination committee meeting to sort out the differences.
The meeting is likely to take place on Thursday or Friday and would be chaired by the JKPCC chief Prof Saifuddin Soz. The party however has authorized its senior leader and Youth Services and Sports Minster Taj Mohiuddin to clear the ground before the crucial meeting who is said to be busy in holding the deliberations with the National Conference senior leaders, including the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
We are hopeful of a consensus emerging out of the coordination committee and I am sure things will be sorted out amicably, Soz said, adding that senior party leader Taj Mohiuddin has been authorized to hold negotiations with the NC.
The ice will be broken in a few days. We will sit together with the NC leadership to iron out the differences, added Soz.
Sources in the coalition government said that NC has shown its willingness not to stake claim for the chairmanship of the council in favor of Congress but there has been no decision on the revocation of the four nominations that have become the bone of contention between the two allies.
According to the sources the Kargil camp of the party led by the political advisor of the Chief Minster Qamer Ali Akhoon was adamant to stall any move from Congress of forming the council, however the high command of the party particularly president Dr Farooq Abdullah has categorically asked party men to refrain from talking any cudgels with Congress. The Chief Minster Omar Abdullah also made a surprise visit to New Delhi on Tuesday where he met Congress General Secretary Ambika Soni besides sending his two emissaries Ali Mohammad Sagar and Nasir Aslam Wani to Kargil where they succeeded to convince the party councilors to withdraw the claim.
