SRINAGAR: Islamia College of Science & Commerce won the finals of 8th Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket Cup that was played at the college grounds in Hawal area.
Dr. Nighat Yousuf daughter of late Prof. Mohammad Yousuf was the guest of honour on the occasion. The final match was played between Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar & Islamia College Srinagar. After winning the toss Islamia College elected to bat first and scored 203 runs in allotted 30 overs.
For Islamia College, Usmaan Pandit contributed 78 runs in 58 deliveries and Umair Altaf scored 39 in 36 deliveries. For Gandhi Memorial College, Abid Nabi and Gowher Nabi claimed two wickets each.
Chasing a stiff target of 204 runs, Gandhi College lost wickets at regular intervals and could score only 114 runs in 24.04 overs. For Gandhi College, Jasbir was only notable contributor with the bat who could score 33 runs in 36 deliveries. For Islamia College Danish claimed 04 wicket and Usmaan Pandit 03.
As such Islamia College lifted the Cricket Cup by defeating Gandhi Memorial College by a huge margin of 89 runs. Usmaan Pandit from Islamia College was adjudged Man of the Match & Man of the Tournament as he scored 233 runs at an average of 55.27 per match and took 8 wickets at an average of 15.13 runs per wicket.
The prizes and mementos were given away by the chief guest, principal, guest of honour and the staff secretary. Dr. Nighat Yousuf gave away cash awards to both the teams & the man of the tournament out of her own pocket.
Speaking on the occasion Physical Director threw light on the personality of late Prof. Mohammad Yousuf and presented a detailed report on the tournament. The chief guest in his address stressed the need to take part in sports and games for all-round development of personality. He further assured the college authorities for his help and support. The Tournament was organised by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar.
