SRINAGAR: A 24-year old Kashmiri student was found dead during Wednesday night inside his hostel room at Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh. Abdul Manan Wani, a final year engineering student at SRM University, Ghaziabad, as per reports, was found hanging in his room on Wednesday night. Manan, a resident of Buchwara, Dalgate presently residing at Chanapora had returned from Kashmir only before three days. He was living in a private hostel in Modinagar area, family said.
College officials said that the body of Manan was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his hostel room by one of his friends Navneet. After having dinner, Navneet went to Manan’s room and found him hanging there at around 1 AM. Hostel management informed the police about the incident,” said a senior police officer.
According to reports no suicide note was found at the spot.
Manans father Ghulam Qadir Wani termed it a murder. My son was neither a weak person nor was he having any kind of financial or educational stress. I knew my son very well. How come police say my son committed suicide without having any proof.
It is unfortunate that J&K Police did not co-operate with us. They are showing no interest in handling the issue seriously, the family member alleged.
He flayed the state government for providing no assistance to them. It were his classmates and other students from University who contributed from their own pocket to pay dues for conducting post-mortem, coffin charges as well as air lifting his body to Valley, Qadir added.
A student from SRM University, Khalid Ahmed said on phone that Manan was with them till 9 p.m on Wednesday. When we were informed about his death, we immediately rushed to spot and found a bed sheet tied with his neck while he was dead.
Khalid however added that Manan was hanged with 7 feet door while his height is 6.2 inches. This clearly indicates that something is fishy, Khalid added.
According to ADGP, Law and Order and Crime, Uttar Pradesh, Arun Kumar police was waiting for the postmortem report but the initial investigation has revealed that it was a case of suicide.
Police officer said that they were scanning phone call details of Manan to know with whom he talked to the last time.
Deputy Inspector General, Central Kashmir Ahfadul Mujtaba said that it is the local police which has to ascertain the facts. We are in touch with Ghaziabad police and even IGP Kashmir talked to them. Most probably, the body would be brought to Srinagar on Friday, he said.
TEACHERS FORUM TO STRIKE WORK
Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum has decided to go for a half day strike in educational institutes on Friday against the mysterious death of a Kashmiri student in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Teachers Forum Chairman Showkat Ahmed Bhat said that all the teachers in Srinagar city would observe a strike after half-day on Friday. He said that Kashmir Teachers Forum called off scores of its celebrations that were to take place in Srinagar in wake of Teachers Day.
The father of the deceased student is a teacher himself and we condemn his murder. It seems that Kashmiri student Manan Qadir has been murdered and Ghaziabad police is trying to give it the colour of suicide, Bhat said adding that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Education Minister Tara Chand must intervene and make people aware about the reality.
The Forum demanded that culprits must be booked. Kashmiri students have started competing with the other students of India and in order to keep them at bay and terrorize them, unscrupulous elements are torturing and killing them, Forum said in a statement.
Manan (24), an engineering student from Chanpora, Srinagar was found hanging inside his hostel room in Modinagar area of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
