SRINAGAR: After dithering for days the State government on Friday finally decided to allow a parallel concert Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir (the reality of Kashmir) being organised by a number of civil society groups on Saturday.
“We have given the permission for the event. It will take place between 4:30 and 6:30,” divisional commissioner Shailendra Kumar said.
Khurram Pervez, chief organizer for the Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir however said the time allotted by the authorities was not acceptable to them and they will go ahead with the show at stipulated time of 12 p.m.
According to Pervez government didnt want international media and German envoy to visit our show and that is why they gave us time which clashes with that of Ehsas-e-Kashmir.
Meanwhile reports said the government decision came following a high level meeting of senior state and security officials. Sources said government nod came despite reservations expressed by officials from several security agencies.
Civil society groups have invited students, folk artists and rappers to be part of the event “to highlight sufferings of people of Kashmir”.
Earlier the organizers had warned government against putting any hindrance to their show.
The music concert is scheduled to commence at 12 noon on Saturday at Sher-i-Kashmir Municipal Park, Srinagar.
Parvez while addressing a press conference here said the administration was hiding itself behind lies. If we are not allowed to conduct the show, the responsibility squarely lies with the Chief Minister.
The organizers informed that more than three thousand people will be participating in Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir. The data was provided by the organizers in response to the enquiries about the programme raised in a letter from the administration. The group however, denied receiving any such letter. We are reading about the letter from media, Khurram said.
Another member of the organizer, Dr Altaf Hussain while talking to media said the main difference between Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir and Ehsaas-e-Kashmir is that the performers in Shalimar are aliens to the soil while as the people present in Municipal Park are sons and daughters of the soil. I am sure the audience of collaborators will understand nothing in Shalimar but here in this park the participants will be an active part of the programme, Dr Altaf said.
