Cong seeks high commands intervention as CCC meet elude consensus
SRINAGAR: Stepping up pressure on its ally National Conference, the state unit of Congress has reportedly approached high command seeking an intervention into the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil nomination row. The state Congress workers from Kargil have even sought relinquishing ties with NC in case the latter does not revoke the controversial nomination of four members to the newly elected council.
The development came after both the parties failed to reach any consensuses in the hurriedly called Coordination committee meeting on Friday afternoon chaired by the JKPCC Chief Prof. Saif ud din Soz.
The differences between the two coalition partners surfaced on Thursday after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah nominated four members of his party to the council which had a Congress majority thus stalling the chances of Congress to head the council. The move has infuriated the Congress workers also who are demanding withdrawal of support to Omar led government in the state, saying the nomination was illegal and undemocratic.
We have written to the AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and expressed our strong resentment over the CMs decision and have urged her to look into the option of withdrawing our support to NC if the Chief Minster does not revoke the nominations forthwith, senior Congress leader from Kargil, Asgar Karbalai said Friday evening.
Sources privy to the CC meeting said that Congress lodged a strong protest in the meeting and made it clear that its ally Chief Minster must revoke the nominations. However a senior National Conference leader who was part of the NC team that took part in the deliberations said that both the parties had their own reservations and view points on the issue. He was however non committal on whether the two allies reached any common ground in the meeting. We had our views and they had their own. The NC leader wishing not to be named said when he was asked whether the two parties sorted out their differences in the meeting. The meeting lasted for more than one and a half hour and was attended by Dy. Chief Minster Tara Chand, Finance Minster Ab. Rahim Rather, Floriculture Minster Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and CAPD Minster Ch. Mohammad Ramzan.
Meanwhile in an important post coordination committee meeting development all Congress ministers met for an emergency meeting at Deputy Chief Minster Tara Chands residence late in the afternoon with JKPCC President Prof. Siaf ud din Soz in chair. During the meeting the members reportedly stressed on parting ways with NC, if it did not revoke the nominations.
A Senior Congress leader pleading anonymity said that the state Congress leadership was in no mood to let the issues die down so easily.
This has been the second time after Hassan Khan incident that NC has violated the Coalition dharma and has backstabbed Congress, but we want to make it clear to NC that we wont cow down this time. The congress leader added.
It is believed that during the meeting at Tara Chands residence the Congress ministers arrived at a decision to involve the high command and put pressure on it to take a tough stand against NC decision.
Meanwhile a delegation reportedly comprising of nearly hundred workers from Kargil have arrived in Srinagar on Friday and are camping at party headquarters on MA road seeking withdrawal of support to Omar Abdullah led government.
Earlier in exercise of the powers conferred by sub section (2) of section 4 of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act, 1997, The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday nominate four persons as the members of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil. They include former Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi of Padum Zanskar, Miskeen Tsering from Kargil, Razia Banoo from Kharboo, Drass and Fatima Banoo from Kargil.
