Srinagar: On September 5, when every school was busy in observing Teachers Day, the Government Middle School in Bowan Rajwar in north Kashmirs Handwara town was locked. This school is closed for past two months.
Reports said that Government Middle School Bowan was constructed by Education Department on a private land on the condition that the son of the landowner would be adjusted in the department.
The landholder Ghulam Hassan Bhat alleges that instead of providing job to his son, the department adjusted another person in lieu of bribe.
Residents of the area said that the landowner has closed the school and as a result more than 100 students seeking education in the school are suffering. The irony is that higher authorities are mum over the issue and do not bother to take cognizance of the grave matter, residents said.
When contacted, Chief Education Officer Handwara, R.K.Pandit said that he does not have any knowledge about the matter. I would seek details from ZEO and would send a team to investigate the matter, he said.
