Srinagar: Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) Tuesday formally engaged HUDCO as the project consultants for maiden Vertical Residential Colony proposed to be developed by SDA at Bemina at an estimated cost of Rs 150 Crore.
This will be the first Vertical Colony in Srinagar with integrated facilities pioneered on the initiative of Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora.
A formal agreement in this regard was signed by Vice-Chairman SDA, Mohammad Shafi Rather and HUDCO Regional Chief, Harjit Kumar here today. Besides providing Consultancy Services, HUDCO will also be financers for the maiden project named Shehjar Apartments. Under the ambitious project, SDA is planning to construct around 300 residential flats with integrated amenities spread over 100 kanals of land opposite Hajj House, Bemina.
Giving a resume of the project, VC SDA said that besides constructing 1BHK, 2BHK, 3BHK and 4BHK residential flats, the Vertical Housing Colony shall also be provided with amenities like free parking, parks, recreational/sports facilities, shopping complex, community hall etc.
Rather said given the mounting demand for apartment-type housing and in view of the escalating land costs, SDA has decided to take the lead in promoting the concept of vertical housing in Srinagar so that minimum land resources are utilized for residential purposes.
He said as project consultants, HUDCO would be responsible for architecture/ designing of the buildings, site development, structural design, electrical, sanitation, plumbing, drainage, water supply and sewerage design, energy management/ communication system, fire detection, fire protection and security systems for the Shehjar apartments.
Rather said the foundation stone for Shehjar Apartments would be laid soon and the work on the project would be started immediately. These apartments will be in addition to the 60 residential flats to be constructed by SDA near the existing Gulposh Apartments at Bemina for which the allotment process is being finalized soon.
Pertinently, HUDCO has also agreed to provide funding for acquisition of land for development of Integrated Commercial Centre (ICC) at Railhead Nowgam by SDA. The proposed commercial centre housing hotels, motels, restaurants, shopping plazas, office spaces, multi-level parking and recreational facilities would be spread over 1500 kanals of land already notified by the government for the purpose.
Another key project to be taken up for execution by SDA with HUDCO funding is construction of office-cum-convention complex at MA Road near the existing Sangarmaal City Centre.
Besides, having exclusive office spaces, the complex will be provided with state-of-the-art conference hall for holding conferences, seminars and media interactions. This will be an exclusive facility in the area as presently only SKICC can host such events.
