We Have High Hopes From You: Malik
SRINAGAR: Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik Tuesday met a delegation of visiting Amnesty International at his Maisuma residence and apprised them about the prevailing human rights situation in Jammu Kashmir. The delegation included Divya Iyer and Christine Mehta.
According to statement, Malik informed visitors about the reign of terror unleashed by police, other govt forces and VDCs in Jammu division especially Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar and adjacent areas. This state terrorism is still going on and oppression to crush peaceful political workers and activists continues unabated.
Malik said that Amnesty International is an international institution safeguarding the human rights of people across the globe. Kashmiris too have high hopes from this institution and it is our wish that this institution, rising above the political and other interests, should keep its efforts on to safeguard the human rights of Kashmiris. AI has to take a serious note of this state repression and try to safeguard innocent Kashmiris from this state terrorism.
Stressing on banning Village Defence Committees, Malik said a force that is being provided guns, ammunition and economical help by Indian state has unleashed a reign of terror in Jammu region. Today, every common man in Jammu belt is demanding the disbanding of this terrorist force.
If India does not want to disband and disarm this terrorist force it should also own its activities and register it as a regular force so that its criminal acts are also recorded, JKLF Chief added.
He said that Indian judiciary has also been used to terrorize Kashmiris. During last few years, about 35 Kashmiris have been sentenced to life by various courts. This oppression, suppression and gross violation of human rights in Jammu Kashmir need immediate attention of the world community.
Expressing his faith on amnesty international Malik hoped this organization will keep on working for the safeguarding of human rights of the people of Jammu Kashmir. Amnesty International, being the foremost organization working for the human rights of people has more responsibilities in this regard, Malik added.
