SRINAGAR: Ahead of Zubin Mehtas proposed visit to Kashmir, police has started investigating and verifying the facts about the people living in Shalimar and its adjacent areas. CNS quoting residents said that they have been directed to provide full details about their families.
Investigation and verification process by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shalimar and its adjacent areas has been the cause of much resentment among the local population. Over the past few days policemen and CID sleuths have been spreading themselves across Shalimar and its adjacent areas to enquire about the past records of the residents.
Reports said that police and CID sleuths are visiting door to door enquiring about the people living in Shalimar area. We were asked to provide complete details about the family members and even the policemen are enquiring about the people living in rented houses, one of the residents said.
Residents said that police is collecting mobile numbers from all the members of every family. We have to provide answers to their every question which include names of family members, their age, qualification, occupation, marital status and phone numbers.
When contacted, a top police official on condition of anonymity said that it is a routine exercise and there is nothing serious about it. It is the duty of police to protect people and we do everything in the interest of people, he said. (CNS)
