SRINAGAR: Pugwash conferences on Jammu & Kashmir were acting against the national interest of Kashmiris and were only safeguarding the interests of India and Pakistan, JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik said today
This is a painful reality and we cannot witness this anti Kashmiri attitude as silent spectators, Malik said in a statement here today.
Pugwash conference is scheduled to be held from 15-17th September 2013 in Pakistani capital Islamabad.
JKLF leader, who has been invited to attend the conference, said that Pugwash is again gathering Indian, Pakistani, Kashmiri leadership and intellectuals in a 5 star hotel in Islamabad to discuss Jammu Kashmir. Malik said when in 2006 he along with leaders from India, Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and this part of Kashmir was present in the Pugwash conference there he put forth a resolution which rejected the bilateral nature of Kashmir issue and emphasised on accepting the owner status of Kashmiris vis-à-vis Kashmir and as a prime party to the dispute.
Malik said though all the participants, including the delegates from India, accepted and passed his resolution but same was not made part of the final text adopted by Pugwash for some reasons.
I was informed that the text and matter for the press was prepared by Amitab Matoo, Sidiq Wahid and Sheri Rehman. I was surprised to see that this text had no mention of any resolutions passed at the conference. All it had was the matters related to across LOC trade. I protested against this and said that if organizers delivered the press conference with the same matter, I will have no option but to counter it by another press conference and put the reality before the people.
Yasin Malik accused Pugwash of dishonesty and alleged that its only job was to brush aside the national interests of Kashmiris, safeguard the interests of India and Pakistan and gather Kashmiri leadership just to wet the programs and proposals of India and Pakistan and provide legitimacy to these programs.
Yasin Malik said because of these very facts JKLF has decided to boycott Pugwash Islamabad conference.
