SRINAGAR: Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Mr. Sonam Narboo on Wednesday convened a high level meeting of the officers of the Department and discussed the measures to be taken in curbing the recently outbreak of Alternaria disease in orchards especially in apple fruit crop.
During the deliberations, all the Chief Horticulture Officers of the Valley apprised the meeting about the damage caused by this disease to the fruit crop of their respective districts and added that the infestation of disease is more in plain areas rather than in high reaches.
The meeting was informed by the District Level Subject Matter Specialists the root cause of this disease and its preventive measures.
On the occasion, the members of the Fruit Growers Association put forth some tangible suggestions for preventing the expansion of the disease further including storage of tested Plant Protection Chemicals well in advance ,opening of sale centres of reputed manufacturers in the valley, omitting of resistant pesticides from the spray schedule by substituting with effective ones. Moreover, a separate spray schedule for cherry and grape was also demanded.
Addressing the fruit growers, the Director Horticulture urged Fruit Growers to adopt the spray schedule in full as per the schedule issued by the department. He assured them that all possible steps would be taken to prevent this disease further for damaging more fruit crop.
The meeting was attended by office bearers of Fruit Growers Association, Kashmir.
