Srinagar: A group of five musicians, led by states well known singer and music composer Waheed Jeelani, is leaving for the United Kingdom to attend various cultural programmes and festivals.
The trip has been sponsored by the state government and is aimed at preserving and promoting Kashmiri music. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended full support to make this trip a reality, Waheed Jeelani told Kashmir Observer.
The artists are scheduled to leave for UK on 4nd September and their first Music concert is scheduled in London on 7th of September.
Most of art loving Kashmiris, settled across UK, have booked their tickets in advance for all the scheduled concerts of Jeelani, and are very enthusiastic about the month long celebrations.
The highlights of this cultural tour are, concert organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, ICCR London, Luton Cultural Festival, Music concerts organized by Kashmir Bhavan Centre & Kashmiri Association of Great Britain London.
More than 1500 people from all sections are expected to witness the music concerts of Kashmiri artists.
Waheed Jeelani will be interacting with British & Asian audiences through some live programmes on various Television & Radio channels.
On 9th September evening, Waheed jeelani & his group will be performing on UKs most viewed Television channel DM Digital TV and the programme will be telecasted live in more than 38 countries.
Jeelani is also expected to perform at Scotland in a Charity Music Concert scheduled for 17th September organized by Creative Scotland Arts Council.
Here in Kashmir Waheed Jeelani has been organizing several fund raising charity music concerts for specially abled children & orphans. Jeelani also organizes various programmes for revival and promotion of cultural activities in Kashmir which also includes yearly Kashmir Sufi Music festival Shashrang.
The other known musicians & artists who will be accompanying jeelani are valleys known Sarangi Nawaz & folk singer Mohamad Abdullah Bhat (Shakhsaz), Rabab player Ghulam Mohamad Lone, well known Tabla & Tumbaknri player Imtiyaz Malik & Mrs. Usha Khar, a Jammu based Kashmiri female vocalist.
