KARGIL: Preparations for the elections of the Kargil Hill Development Council have been completed and polls are being conducted on Thursday.
Election Authority of LAHDC Kargil and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Mr. Fida Hussain took stock of the preparations while touring various areas of the district today. As many as 4 election observers, 26 returning officers, 26 Assistant Returning Officers, 3 Zonal Magistrates and 26 Sectoral Magistrates have been put on election duty.
In all 78847 voters of Kargil district shall elect 26 Councilors while casting their votes at 257 polling stations already set up for the purpose. As many as 84 candidates have submitted their candidature while as 2 candidates have already been declared elected un-opposed.
To ensure smooth and peaceful election, the whole district has been divided in 15 police zones and 49 police sectors by posting adequate number of police and security force in the district.
The polling staff has already being deputed and posted at 257 polling stations in Kargil district.
Deputy Commissioner Fida Hussain flagged off the buses of polling staff today at 8 AM it Indira Park Kargil. The process of casting votes will began at 8.30 AM tomorrow and will conclude at 4.30 PM. In this connection the district administration has declared holiday on 22nd August, 2013 in Kargil district.
