Srinagar: The Independence Day was celebrated across the Jammu and Kashmir with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unfurling the tri-color at the main function at Bakshi Stadium while other ministers unfurling the tri-color at various district and Tehsil headquarters, amid stringent security arrangements.
Chief Minister Omar was given a guard of honor, which was followed by March past in which contingents of various security forces, police and school children took part. However PDP Pattern Mufti Mohamad Syed and party Chief Mehbooba Mufti were conspicuous by their absence on the I-day function.
At District Headquarters, the Ministers unfurled the tricolor and took salute of the march past comprising the contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC, BSF, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force and school students.
Reports said that large number of people participated in the functions despite rains lashing the Valley since Wednesday.
Almost All the MLAs from both ruling National conference and PDP attended the functions.
