SRINAGAR: In rising incidents of man-animal conflict, two more persons, including an 8 year old girl, were killed by stray bears in the Valley today taking the death toll to three in past 24 hours.
In a gruesome incident a ferocious bear mauled an eight year old girl to death in Jabdan area of Khansahab in Budgam Tuesday morning.
Police sources said that a bear entered into the house of one Bilal Ahmed Dar during wee hours Tuesday and dragged out his eight year old sleeping daughter Dilshada Banu to nearby forest.
Police said that the shocked girl could not even scream thus leaving her parents unawares about her whereabouts. Bear disappeared from the scene and it was only after several hours that residents joined by police
found the severed head of Dilshada lying in nearby forest while pieces of her body were found scattered at different places.
People alleged that despite repeated pleas to Wild Life Department to curb the movement of wild animals, no attention was paid by the department and these wild animals continue to roam freely without any interruption. Meanwhile in a separate incident a bear attacked and killed a man from Rajouri in Ganderbal district, official sources said.
They said a bear entered village Nala Sarbal, Ganderbal, from nearby forest. However, before local people could do anything, bear attacked and critically injured Zubair Ahmad Khatana, son of Ishaq Ahmad, resident of Siyasooyee Kalakote, Rajouri.
The injured was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Earlier on Monday a 10-year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in village Karihama in North Kashmirs Handwara area.
Leopard attacked Basit Bashir son of Bashir Ahmad Lone resident of Hayan Trehgam when he, along with other children, was playing near his house in Wani Mohalla.
He suffered severe injuries in the attack and was shifted to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, the official said.
Man-animal conflict in different parts of the Kashmir valley has witnessed increase during the past few months as reports are being received almost daily about death or injured in bear and leopard attacks.
