Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that in the changing global geo-politic realities time for military confrontaions was over and reiterated call for peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. Kashmir’s head priest also said Kashmiris were praying along with the Muslim Ummah for the freedom of Masjid al-Aqsa and Kashmir.
Addressing a mamoth gathering at historic Jamia Masjid here on the last Friday of Ramzan, head of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, said peace would remain elusive in south Asian region unless Kashmir issue was not solved politically. He said that any process aimed at solving the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan cant succeed without the inclusion of Kashmiris.
The Mirwaiz said that people of Kashmir were the masters of their destiny, Hurriyat would stress on both countries to start meaningful dialogue to solve the Kashmir issue. In this regard, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said that conglomerate would write letters to both Indian and Pakistani prime ministers asking them if they would start meaningful negotiations to solve Kashmir issue, Hurriyat is more than ready to lend support to any such process.
In the changing political scenario of the world, Mirwaiz said, intimidation and military build-up is no solution to problems and disputes and instead of using force to solve the disputes, countries were taking path of negotiations to deal with the problems. He said the best examples in this regard were the ongoing talks in Afghanistan and Palestine to settle the complex issues in the respective countries.
Taking a dig at pro-Indian politicians, he claimed those parties were exploiting Kashmiris for their own petty interests. All the time these parties are talking about Kashmir resolution but basically their agenda is totally election oriented, and they have no real interest in Kashmir resolution, he added.
Apart from that, Mirwaiz alleged the pro-Indian politicians were involved in exploitation of Kashmiri resources. Kashmiris should have the basic right on their resources which have the potential to lead the state towards economic freedom, he demanded.
Mirwaiz announced that Eid Nimaaz would be offered at Eidgah at 10:30 am.
RESOLUTION
On the occasion a resolution prepared by the Hurriyat (M) was readout by the Mirwaiz, which was endorsed by the thousands of people at Jamia Masjid.
The resolution reads: On this day of Yaum-e-Kashmir and Youm-al-Quds, this huge congregation wants to make it clear that illegal Israeli occupation of Masjid al-Aqsa and state sponsored terrorism in Kashmir is unacceptable. Therefore this gathering calls upon the international community to take meaningful steps to help Palestinians and Kashmiris in getting their political rights which they have been kept devoid off from past many decades. Hence, it would free the people of both the nations from their boundless sufferings and untold miseries unleashed by the Indian and Israeli authorities.
The gathering feels that materialism is creeping deeper into Kashmir society. As a result, social ills like immorality, drug addiction, and liquor have sadly shown a rising trend. Such evils in Kashmir can be only encountered by protecting our Islamic identity. This gathering, as such, appeals conscious Kashmiris, Ulema, respectable, intellectuals to protect the Islamic values and inculcate those teachings among the people to preserve the true Islamic spirit which would help them to get rid of all the social menace plaguing the society.
This gathering wants to tell the pro-Indian political parties that Kashmiris have only been subjected to subterfuge in the blood soaked Kashmir history. It is a matter of concern that once again that some pro-Indian politicians are twisting the facts and presenting the Kashmir problem through their point of view to mislead the people. They are using their cheating tactics to befool common masses. This gathering warns them to stop this hypocritical politics from which they intend to reap political interests by raking Kashmir issue. If they think, Kashmir is an issue, then they should openly announce that Kashmir is a dispute and its solution should be found according to the wishes and aspirations of people
As India and Pakistan are both armed with nuclear arsenals, a dire need has emerged to solve Kashmir issue on priority basis. The peace and stability in south Asia is thus connected with the K issue. Hence this gathering calls upon the leadership of the region to accept the reality that peace and dispute cant go together. If the south Asia has to fulfill the dream of its political and economical global ambitions, the solution of Kashmir thus becomes inevitable.
This gathering feels that the beginning of talks in middle-east and Afghanistan are being done under the proper historical perspectives. The leadership of both the India and Pakistan should understand that they could not avoid the solving the K issue since it too has historical perspective. Hence the time has come that both the countries show political will to solve the Kashmir issue for once and all.
This gathering feels that some agencies and vested interested elements were hell bent to divide the people of Kashmir on sectarian lines. These forces were scheming to break the unity and the centuries old tradition of inter-sectarian bonhomie so as to weaken the Kashmir movement. Hence this gathering appeals people to remain vigilant and cautious of these anti-movement forces. We appeal people to foil the nefarious designs of these elements by maintaining unity, preserve the inter-sectarian bonhomie and together fight for the freedom struggle of Jammu and Kashmir.
This gathering sternly condemns the brutal oppression of Kashmiris, torture, arbitrary arrests of youth, lodging of political prisoners in outside jails, deliberately delaying the hearing dates of prisoners to prolong their detention, wanton human rights violation and restrictions on the religious, political and social activities of pro-freedom leadership. This gathering wants to make clear such dictatorial measures cannot defeat the spirit of Kashmiris and their leadership from pursuing the cause of freedom.
