Srinagar: Army on Friday foiled another infiltration bid by killing a militant and seriously injuring another along the Line of Control in Tanghdar sector of Kupwara district.
With this, the number of militants killed has gone up to eleven over the last four day.
A Defence Ministry spokesman said that the army in Tanghdar sector detected movement of two militants along LoC following an intelligence input. He said the troops had cordoned off the area after getting a tipoff. Heavy fog with intermittent rains delayed the operations. By night, when the weather started to improve, the two militants on being detected, opened fire on the troops, said the spokesman. The fire, he said, was returned which resulted in the death of one militant while the other was seriously injured.
The body of the killed militant has been recovered while the search for the wounded militant is on, he said, adding, One AK-47 was recovered from the slain militant.
Meanwhile, an operation launched by the army yesterday continued for the second day in Lolab forests, sources said.
They said the operation was launched by 18, 28 and 47 Rashtriya Rifles along with 9 and 4 Para of Army following inputs that new Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) Chief Qari Obama was hiding in the forests. Obama is the successor to Qari Yasir who was killed in an encounter on July 23 in Lolab.
