SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to release 10 prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr while a list of 50 others has also been prepared whose cases have been sent to respective district screening committees for comments.
Sources said that release of 10 prisoners has been finalised and they can be released anytime before August 15. The prisoners would be released as a good well gesture, they said.
A senior police officer said that government has sought a list of prisoners who are in jails on minor charges. We have submitted the list to the government and it is upto them to deicide how many will be released and when, he added.
Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo confirmed that in first phase 10 prisoners would be released. These are some old cases and they would be released on the occasion of August 15. In next phase cases of other prisoners would be taken up, he added. KNS
