Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Food Safety Division under the supervision of Health Officer Dr Rubeena Shaheen conducted surprise checks of various markets including Hari Singh High Street, Mahraj Bazaar, Goni Khan, LD road, Sanat Nagar and other areas.
According to a statement of SMC, during the inspection at least 65 kgs of loose spices being sold in open were destroyed on spot besides destroying 35 kgs of some rotten fruits and vegetables. Some expired and substandard dates were also destroyed on the spot.
Meanwhile, SMC Commissioner Dr Qasba has appealed to public in general that in case of any complaint regarding any of the food items being sold in the market, the health officer or the food safety officers of the corporation shall be promptly contacted.
