Srinagar: Noted academician, fiction writer, critic and researcher of Urdu and Kashmiri languages Prof Majeed Muzmar passed away at SKIMS Soura after brief illness on Thursday.
Muzmar was also Dean Faculty of Arts and Head, Department of Urdu University of Kashmir.
The KU teachers, scholars, students and other non-teaching staff have expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Prof Muzmar and offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
Vice-Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad while expressing his grief over the sudden demise of Prof Muzmar visited the bereaved family where he offered his condolences and paid tributes to the memory of Prof Muzmar. Prof Talat termed Muzmar as a thorough gentleman and a reputed Urdu scholar and said that late Prof Muzmar had highly contributed to the corporate life of the University during his illustrious career as an academician.
Prof Muzmar, 59 was a well known Urdu litterateur and hailed from district Anantnag in south Kashmir, .He is survived by wife, son and a daughter.
Prof Muzmar had a Teaching Experience of around 2 years at undergraduate level and 26 years at post-graduate level during which he guided /supervised 21 M. Phil scholars and 08 Ph. D scholars.
Prof Muzmar had an experience of 15 years as an Editor with Research journal Bazyaft of Department of Urdu. He also remained member editorial board of the University magazine Gulala for several years.
AMK condoles demise
Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) has condoled the demise.
As a writer and teacher Prof Muzmir contributed immensely to the Urdu and Kashmiri languages and literature. His work is a valuable asset for both the languages which will guide the teachers and students alike. An associate of AMK for decades, Prof Muzmir was a lover of Kashmiri language and literature and always used to appreciate AMK for its work, a spokesman of the AMK said in a statement.
He was a very humble human being, always ready to offer his support for literary causes, said AMK President Dr Aziz Hajni.
AMK prays for peace to the departed soul and expresses solidarity with the bereaved family.
Urdu Academy has condoled the demise of Prof Muzmir. A spokesperson of the Academy said a condolence meeting was held at its office where members prayed for the departed soul.
