SRINAGAR: Patients visiting Valleys sole Childrens Hospital (GB Panth Hospital) Sonwar face serious health problems due to poor sanitation
Scores of patients who talked to KNS on Wednesday said that there was need for quick intervention to change the situation to prevent them from acquiring hospital borne infections.
Such situation can cause a serious infection to the patients with open wounds, said an attendant Ishtiyaq Drabu who was accompanying his child for treatment. The Post Operative Wards, corridors and toilets at the hospital are clogged with filth causing immense inconvenience to the patients and their attendants.
The poor sanitation at this key hospital that serves a huge population of nearly 10 districts has evoked strong resentment among the patients and the attendants.
Nazir Ahmad Dar from Palpora who accompanied his daughter for treatment, said that the poor sanitation at the hospital was exacerbated by filthy toilets.
Situation is worse with the flush toilet which is always blocked due to lack of water. It is terrible to be here. One can contract dangerous diseases on visiting here for a minor treatment, he said.
A patient from Bemina Srinagar claimed that each time he visits the toilet he vomits because of the heavy stench emanating from human faeces.
Sheemema, who is attending to her daughter, is worried that her daughter may acquire an infection due to poor hygiene at the hospital.
Service delivery at the hospital is poor. It takes hours for a patient to be attended by doctors . I spent almost hour with my daughter at night in the emergency ward as there was only one doctor who was attending the patient. It is indeed heart breaking that cries of patients have for long gone unanswered,” she said.
Despite several attempts, the hospital authorities could not be contacted for comments. (KNS)
