Srinagar: The High Level Committee for the promotion of Urdu language headed by Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday Wednesday gave its concurrence to the proposal of the Sub Committee regarding setting up of J&K Urdu Promotion Council for the holistic and comprehensive development and promotion of States official language.
The Sub Committee under Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture Constituted to look into the issue of setting up of Urdu Academy proposed instead a State Council for Promotion of Urdu Language. The Said Council as per the Proposal will be an autonomous organisation headed by the Chief Minister as its Chairman and other members of proven literary Calibre besides Minister for Culture, etc.
The High Level Committee also gave its concurrence to yet another proposal aimed at incorporating necessary provisions in the recruitment rules for direct entry posts in various departments where Knowledge of Urdu language is required to ensure proper and effective service delivery.
While reviewing the report, submitted by one of the Sub-Committees regarding requirement of Urdu, Dogri and Kashmiri language teachers in schools, the High Level Committee gave further one months time to the Sub Committee for finalising the actual number of Urdu, Dogri and Kashmiri teachers required in the Government schools.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary also asked the Sub Committees for formulating the reports in both Urdu and English languages.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Mr. K. B. Agarwal, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mr. Atul Duloo, Secretary School Education, Mr. Hirdesh Kumar, Secretary GAD, Sheikh Mushtaq, Secretary Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Mr. Khalid Bashir, Director School Education Jammu, Kashmir and other senior officers.
