SRINAGAR: Former Director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Dr Jalal was critically injured while two of his guards were killed today when unidentified militants attacked him near his home in South Kashmir.
Dr Sheikh Jalal-ud-din, 64, and his security guards were targeted by militants near his residence at Namblabal in Pampore, police said.
While Mr Jalal’s two police guards died on-the-spot, the cardiologist was hit by a bullet in the left eye and was rushed to SKIMS in critical condition, police said.
Dr Jalal was a protected person but the motive behind the attack was not immediately known.
