Srinagar: At least eighteen people, including five policemen, were injured when protesters clashed with police after they blocked Srinagar Muzaffarabad road in Delina area of Baramulla on Monday.
People were protesting against the inability of district and police administration to trace the body of a youth Zubair Ahmed who had drowned a day before in Jehlum.
Reports said hundreds of people came on roads near Delina on Monday morning. Protestors raised anti-police and anti-government slogans and some of them even pelted stones at vehicles.
Protestors alleged that even after a day police and district administration did nothing to trace the body of the youth.
Not a single boat was pressed into service and the irony is that no official visited the spot, said an agitated protester.
DC Baramulla along with top police officials visited the spot; however, all their efforts to pacify the protesters went in vain.
Police resorted to teargas shelling and lathicharge to disperse the protesters. In response, the protesters pelted stones on policemen and in the ensuing clashes eighteen people, including five policemen, were injured.
SSP Baramulla, Zubair Ahmed, told reporters hat police action was inevitable. Protesters had blocked the road and were not allowing even patients to go ahead. Our men are searching for the body, he said.
