SRINAGAR: In a gruesome incident, unknown persons killed a policeman by slashing his throat at Harduna forest area of Vilgam village in frontier district of Kupwara in North Kashmir on Saturday.
Official sources said blamed militants for the killing of Head Constable Sanaullah Zargar, son of Abdul Gani Zargar and said the policeman was killed this morning when he had gone to fetch timber from the nearby forest area of Hangalpora.
Sanuallah Belt no. 940/F posted at DPL Srinagar had gone to his home on leave where he was killed.
Another report said Zargar had gone to forest along with his wife to collect firewood.
The couple, they said, was intercepted by some unknown militants present in the forest. They checked his identity papers and later decapitated his head while letting off his wife. The slain policeman is survived by his wife and four children including a girl, police sources said.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman while confirming the gruesome killing said Police reached the spot and the area has been cordoned off. The body of the deceased Head Constable was handed over to his relatives for last rites, the spokesman said, adding a case has been registered and investigations started.
