SRINAGAR: Ambassador of Switzerland in India, Dr. Linus Von Castelmur and his wife visited the historic city of Srinagar and took a cruise ride in river Jhelum.
President Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) Rauf Tramboo who accompanied the Ambassador briefed them about the 5000 year old Kashmir history, culture and its heritage while taking them on river Jhelum cruise and to the city centre of the prime city of Srinagar.
The history and architecture of 700 year old Khanqah of Shah Hamdan in old city fascinated them most, said Tramboo. He was all praise for the heritage buildings and centuries old temples, mosques and monuments and stressed for the preservation of those, he said.
In his remarks which the visitors penned down in Jhelum cruise guest book he wrote, It gave us great pleasure to discover Jhelum River during the short cruise, Beautiful old houses, temples and mosques We wish that they can be restored and brought back to their earlier splendors.
TAAK president briefed the envoy about the centurys old tourism and handicrafts industry of Kashmir and also gave the present tourism scenario in which he showed keen interest. TAAK president also pleaded for reversal of travel advisory by his country like Japan, Germany and Great Britain did in recent past.
