Rasool Mirs poetry treasure-trove for Kashmiris: Mir
SRINAGAR- Rasool Mir Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm at his native town Shahabad Dooru. Thousands of his fans drawn from across the State thronged Dooru to pay tributes to this great poet.
On the occasion, the civil society in collaboration with J&K Cultural Academy, Departments of Tourism, Information and Education organised a grand function wherein the contribution of this legendary poet was highlighted by the people. People paid glowing tributes to this great poet and maintained that the contribution made by this legendary personality will continue to inspire the people, especially those associated with writings and art works. The renowned artists of the State highlighted the work of this great poet through a bonanza of cultural items which enthralled the audience.
The event was inaugurated by eminent poet and writer and recipient of Gian Peeth Award Rehman Rahi.
Minister for Housing, Cultural and Horticulture, Mr. Raman Bhalla was Chief Guest and Minister for Tourism, Mr. G.A. Mir was Guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raman Bhalla said that Government was committed to promote the cause of writers, poets, artists and cultural activities and has taken several initiatives in this direction. He said the Government has set up full-fledged Cultural Academy to provide an exclusive platform to the artists to promote arts, languages and varies heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He said State has produced great writers and poets which have contributed a lot in enlightening the people from different walks of life through their poetry and art works.
He said the real tribute to late Rasool Mir will be to carry forward his work and promote the poetry, art, culture and languages in the State. He said the writers strengthen the mutual brotherhood, communal harmony and cultural ties between different communities, States and countries through their work and they have great significance in the society. He said Government considers the contribution of poets, writers and artists at highest esteem as they keep alive our centuries old heritage through their great efforts. In recognition of their valuable contribution in the society, the Government institutes different awards on several occasions. He referred recent gesture of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who in recognition of great contribution to the society released a postage stamp in the memory of great Kashmiri Poet late Ghulam Ahmed Mehjoor.
He emphasized the need for organizing regular events across the State by the Cultural Academy, Department of Information, and Education to encourage the budding artists and to create inspirational spirits amongst the younger generation so that they evince interest in the poetry, art and cultural activities. He lauded the efforts of organizers for showcasing the rich contribution of late Rasool Mir.
Tourism Minister, Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Mir while paying tributes to this great poet said that Kashmir has produced so many great spiritual writers, Sufi poets and Saints and among the famous legendary poets of Kashmir, Rasool Mir is the only romantic poet who is well known almost in every corner of the world.
He said after Rasool Mir most of the poets of Kashmir tried to follow his form and style of poetry, but it was not an easy job to do.
The Tourism Minister said that Rasool Mir, a dynamic, multidimensional and Romantic Sufi poet of Kashmir, was one legendary poet who left behind a treasure of great poetry. He said Born at Dooru Shahabad, a famous town in Anantnag, Rasool Mir is popularly known and has been titled as Keats of Kashmir for his extraordinary approach and deep insight into human nature and behaviour. With him romance has numerous dimensions and he succeeds in exploring all of them in his lyrics. Not only for his romantic poetry, he is also famous for his successful attempts at mingling mysticism to the wide theme of his poetry, Mir said and added that he descended from a family of Zamindars who used to be village heads at Dooru. Now government has laid a beautiful lawn and tomb at Mirs graveyard.
Prof. Rehman Rahi threw light on the life of this great poet and said that Rasool Mir was one of the leading Kashmiri poets of the 19th century. He said he has been titled as Keats of Kashmir for his powerful romantic poetry but at times he mingles with mysticism.
He said Rasool Mir brought Gazal to Kashmiri poetry, Gazal with rivers, valleys, birds, fruits and imagery of Kashmir are his Forte, he said and added Romance is visible and sprinkled in almost all his works.
On the occasion, the Ministers honoured Prof. Rahi for his great contribution in the field of writings and promotion of art, culture and languages in the State. He was offered with a shawl and citation.
Earlier, the Ministers visited at the grave of late Rasool Mir and paid floral tributes and offered special prayers to pay their respects to him.
The Ministers also distributed prizes amongst the artists who took part in the cultural activities on the occasion.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Managing Director, JKTDC, Managing Director, J&K Cable Car Corporation, Chief Executive Officer, Verinag Tourism Development Authority, Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, students from several schools and prominent citizens of the area.
