Srinagar: The 417th Birth Anniversary of 6th Sikh Guru Hargobind Singh Ji, was celebrated on Friday with religious fervour and gaiety throughout the Jammu and Kashmir State. Despite scorching heat, a large number of Sikh devotees visited Gurdwaras and other religious places since early this morning.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi Rainawari
wherein wearing colourful dresses, members of the community were seen busy in prayers and wishing each other. Langars were put for the devotees while amid reciting Gurbani, Sikh religious preachers lauded the teachings of Guru Hargovind Singh Ji popularly known as Meeri Peeri ka Malik.
Chief Minister, Abdullah also visited Gurudwara to pray for maintaining brotherhood and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir State. Sikh community members presented Saropa and Kirpan to the Chief Minister. They also putforth demands particularly inclusion of Punjabi language in all schools of Jammu and Kashmir State. Speaking on the occasion, Omar Abdullah stressed the gathering to remain united and assured that all their genuine demands will be fulfilled. The Chief Minister also highlighted the role played by Sikh Community to strengthen the harmony and said that Sikhs of Valley have always lived in an atmosphere of brotherhood with majority community even during the challenging period of trouble and disturbances. You lived with Muslim brethren in amity and faced the brunt of hard days together, he said and praised their role.
Other dignitaries and All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee Chairman, Jag Mohan Singh Raina also paid obeisance to Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
In Jammu the main function was held at Gurdwara Bibi Chand Kour near Gummat. Similar functions were also held at Baghat-e-Barzulla, Jawahar Nagar, Amira Kadal, Tral, Awantipora, Badamibagh Cantonment and Baramulla in the Valley. Members of the Sikh community were being greeted by their Muslim and Kashmiri Pandit brethern. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar also greeted the people particularly Sikh community.
