Peer Marg: At the distance of only 43Kms from Shopian district head quarter and at the distance of 44 Kms from Bafliaz in district Poonch lies other busiest tourist destination called PEER MARG. Thousands of people from both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir visit this place daily despite lack of basic facilities.
Peer Marg is situated in the middle of Mughal road which divides both the region Kashmir and Jammu geographically . It is not only the tourist destination, but a central meeting point for the people of both the regions particularly belonging to South Kashmir area from Kashmir side and for the people of Poonch and Rajouri districts from Jammu side . As per reports, the local people of both the regions belonging to South Kashmir area and Poonch Rajouri districts organize joint picnics now days at this central tourist spot . One such joint group picnic member Javaid Ahmed Dar of Thanamandi Rajouri told this journalist that they were on joint picnic with their friends from Shopian and Pulwaama district . After enjoying a day long picnic at Peer Marg which is at equal distance for both of us we will leave for our respective homes in the evening . It was not possible before the construction of Mughal road . However, Mudasir of Pulwama expressed his displeasure over the non availability of facilities on this beautiful tourist spot . Not only this, even the close relative families of both the regions also organize joint picnics on this spot because of its central location .
This is not only a beautiful and picturesque tourist spot, Peer Marg is also known for having famous shrine located in the area in the name of great sufi saint Sheikh Ahmed Karim who had stayed for some time at this place while crossing towards Kashmir valley through Mughal road . Due to the location of the shrine at this place, thousands of religious tourists also pilgrims also visit this place said a care taker of the shrine Abdul Sattar Reshi .
It is not only Peer Marg which has become the attraction of tourists as new destination, the complete 43 Kms stretch of Mughal Road from Shopian to Peer Marg offers various tourist sposts, like Dubjan, Heer Pura, Aliaaabad Srai,and Doongi Marg. While from Poonch side, Chatta Pani is the latest and virgin tousists spot which competes with Sonamarga due to its white river, glaciers and meadows. As the area has been declared the rich wild life habitations , the government agencies and other tourist related private agencies are prevented to create any infrastructure on these places. However , the department of forest and wildlife is planning to create eco tourisms infrastructure along this route . We have planned to create all required facilities on these tourist spots but this whole of the infrastructure will be eco friendly, said Minister for forest and environment Mian Altaf Ahmed adding that two eco tourism societies have been constituted for the purpose . One society has been constituted from Shopian side and an other from Poonch side . The proposals of required infrastructure has been prepared and work on these projects would be started soon, said Mian Altaf Ahmed while talking to this journalist .
