SRINAGAR – The Kashmir based NGOs Coordination Committee has called for formulating a strategy for construction of earthquake resistant residential houses in seismic zone Chenab Valley areas like Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Ramban and Kishtwar. The Committee has also sought State Administrations intervention in the rehabilitation of the affected people in the wake of earthquake in May this year.
Recently the Coordination Committee Members comprising of Zahoor Ahmad Tak, Patron J&K Yateem Trust, Prof. Abdul Aziz Mir, Chairman J&K Yateem Khana, Abdul Hamid Sofi, Secretary Planning Sakhawat Centre, J&K and Mohammad Rafiq Lone, Chairman J&K Yateem Foundation, visited the earthquake affected areas in Chenab valley and expressed sympathies with the affected people. The Committee met local civil society & had also interaction with bar associations besides NGOs and other sections of the society and assured all possible help and support to the needy in tune with the available resources.
The locals highlighted the concerns of the common people like threats of snake bites and other wild animals, for those who are putting up in open temporary tents due to fear of aftershocks.
