Budgam – Scores of people in Gogjipathri area of Central Kashmirs Budgam district staged a protest against the village representatives and Rural Development Department officials for swindling huge chunk of money under different Centre sponsored schemes. The protestors alleged that Village representatives, in league with some officials, had given undue benefits to their scores of relatives under Indira Awas yojna (IAY).
IAY is a social welfare programme to provide housing for the rural poor and under the scheme, financial assistance worth Rs.70000 in plain areas and Rs.75000 in high land area is provided for construction of houses. Protestors said that one of the Sarpanch has provided monetary benefits to his immature son and one of his close relatives.
Under IAY scheme it has come to light that village representatives of Gogjipathri and its adjoining villages for the construction of houses have allotted huge chunk of money to their relatives. It is shocking as these funds are exclusively reserved for the poor sections of the society, one of the protestors said. Protestors demanded probe into the matter.
