SRINAGAR – A day after Mufti Muhammad Saeed questioned the credentials of National Conference leadership as the proponents of the removal of AFSPA, senior NC leadership hit back at the PDP patron calling him the “godfather of AFSPA”.
The NC said that it was Mufti who brought in the dubious act when he was the home minister of India. Veteran NC leader and Rural Development Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar, said the people of the state were well aware of the fact as to who got AFSPA implemented in the state.
They made no efforts during their tenure against AFSPA. There is no record that he made any effort for revocation of AFSPA, therefore the statements issued by PDP are hollow, said Sagar adding, It is the chief Mister Omar Abdullah who is trying tooth and nail to make the revocation of Armed force special power Act (AFSPA) possible.
AFSPA was the creation of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed when he was the Union Home Minster, said Sagar, PDP has lost the track and is now issuing bizarre statements only to misrepresent the facts.
Joining the chorus, Higher Education Minister, Akbar Lone, said, PDP has always been finding ways and means to disintegrate NC. Peoples Democratic Party has lost credibility in the state and finds it hard to survive as a trusted political party. PDP leadership has started propaganda against NC by issuing baseless statements. NC is committed to the withdrawal of AFSPA.
CAPD Minister, Ramzan Chowdhary said rejection and defeat had frustrated the PDP leadership. Defeat and rejection has frustrated them and now they are making propaganda against NC. They have the ignominious distinction of slapping PSA on young boys in their dark rule. It is not surprising that PDP would be working overtime to ensure that AFSPA is not revoked. People of the state must remain vigilant against the conspiracies of PDP, said Chowdhary.
Taking PDP head-on, NC Provincial President for Jammu, Devender Rana said the partys misrule was a political aberration of the last decade.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Political Secretary, Tanvir Sadiq, called Mufti Saeed the yes-man of Delhi saying that PDP had become a safe haven for corrupt people.
With eyes set on 2014 assembly elections, more and more attacks and counter-attacks are expected between the two regional parties.
