SRINAGAR: With most of the treasuries having gone dry, state government employees and contractors have raised hue and cry over the non release of salary and the pending bills.
Sources said that bills worth crores were pending in different treasuries since March and no attempts were being made by government to clear the bills. Central Contractors Association has warned of setting the C-Cards ablaze if their bills were not cleared soon.
We have called an emergency meeting on May 18. We can go to any extent if the bills are not cleared at the earliest, President of the Association Farooq Ahmad Dar said.
Pertinently the contractors have already locked Kupwara treasury office a few days back, alleging that bills worth more than Rs six crore were not being cleared since March.
Meanwhile state government employees also complained that their salary for April has not been released yet due to non availability of funds with the treasuries.
This is marriage season. We have applied for GP Funds. But we have been left high and dry by the treasure officials. We dont have salary leave aside the GP Fund, the employees said.
Director General Treasuries and Accounts Majid Jahangir confirmed to KNS that there was a shortage of cash in some treasuries but said that efforts were on to sort out the matter.
Funds would be made available in a few days, the DG said. KNS
