SRINAGAR: Prominent English daily, Greater Kashmir celebrated its silver jubilee at the Nigeen Club in Srinagar on Wednesday.
The event was celebrated with fanfare and speakers at the function lauded newspapers management, editorial team and reporters for upholding the elementary principles of impartiality and objectivity in the field of English journalism.
The first volume of the book, titled The Kashmir Dispute: 1947-2012, by noted author A G Noorani was also released on the occasion.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Member Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi was the chief guest.
Galaxy of mainstream and separatist leaders were among the large group of invitees present on the occasion.
The Kashmir dispute-1947 to 2013 released on the occasion has been published by Trikuta books New Delhi.
Those who were present on the occasion included Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, Javid Ahemd Mir, DFP chief Shabir Ahmed Shah, Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Forest Minister Mian Altaf, R&D Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, National Conference leader Nasir Aslam Wani, Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hasan Mir, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Dr Mehboob Beigh, PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma, MLA Langate Engineer Rashid, ADG Armed S.M.Sahai, DIG Central Kashmir Afhadul Mujtaba besides others.
Pertinently, Greater Kashmir, which was launched on 15th May 1988 as a weekly newspaper, completed its 25 years of publication on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Greater Kashmir editor, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo in his concluding remarks said that last 25 years have been a huge personal challenge for him.
It has taken 25 years for an idea to become an institution. En route are milestones of success, failures, trails and tribulations. As I look back, there is no joy greater, no satisfaction more than the journey that we at GK undertook, he said and added We are indeed proud of what we have achieved but what drives us is the promise of what lies ahead. We are conscious of our contribution but what inspires us is the commitment to the cause that is yet to be fulfilled.
