SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday arrested reporter of a local weekly newspaper for writing a news report about the inter-religious marriages, which allegedly hurt the sentiments of a minority community.
An FIR 189/13 has been registered under section 153 RPC against the accused, a police official said.
Reporter had done a story on inter-religious marriages in Baramulla with an illustration which has allegedly offended the religious sentiments of a minority community. The case has been registered and the investigation is on, police said.
Meanwhile, in an emailed statement to KNS, the editor of the weekly (Kashmir Life) has apologized for publishing the story.
An illustration that accompanied the story (Marriages of Faith, May 12 May 18, 2013) in our newspaper about the interfaith marriage in Baramulla appears to have hurt the religious sentiments of some members of a minority community. We unequivocally state that there is no intention to do so and if it has we apologize, the statement reads. kns
